Happiness on Horseback

We are excited to announce our partnership with Camp Casey for this holiday season! When we learned what they were up to, it felt like a perfect fit. Please read below to learn how Camp Casey was started and what they are all about. Through the end of the year we will be donating $1 from every shirt and hoodie sale to their organization

If you are local, please consider joining Camp Casey at their Ugly Sweater and Cowboy Hat Pub Crawl Fundraiser coming up in December. More info can be found HERE. https://player.vimeo.com/video/255580361?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0&playsinline=0&autopause=0&app_id=122963

“Camp Casey was founded to honor the memory of Casey Foote, a 12-year- old horseback rider who passed away in 2003 from bone and brain cancer. Until her final days, Casey sought emotional relief from her illness at a farm near her home where she rode and groomed her favorite horse, Brandy. Interacting with animals and friends at the farm was therapeutic for Casey’s family as well. They often accompanied her to watch as their daughter experienced a day of normalcy in a clean, safe, peaceful environment.

When Casey passed away, her friends at the farm commemorated Casey by holding a one-day event for children seeking cancer treatment at Sparrow Regional Medical Center where Casey had been a patient. The initial intent of Camp Casey was to provide a one-time retreat where children, like Casey, and their families could come horseback riding and enjoy horses the way Casey had for so many years.

At its first retreat, Camp Casey welcomed 20 children and their families for a day filled with horseback riding, grooming, making arts and crafts, playing team-building games, going on treasure hunts, hay rides and eating food compliant with their dietary restrictions. The first Camp Casey retreat was so much fun that one camper declared the retreat the “best day of (his) life.”

Since its inaugural summer, Camp Casey has morphed into three unique, cost-free programs under the Camp Casey umbrella. Cowboy Camp Outs are mini-vacations at dude ranches in Michigan. Horsey House Calls bring Moe, Camp Casey’s horse, to the doorsteps of kids too sick to attend camp (or whose need is more immediate and can’t wait for the next available Cowboy Camp Out). Outlaw Outings offer family-fun activities, like trips to professional sports games and pumpkin patches, without the hassle or expense of planning.”
