Yesterday we celebrated the Summer Solstice and all that it brings. Summer Solstice is celebrated scientifically and spiritually. Beliefs and traditions vary among religions and cultures but the general theme of rebirth, growth and renewal can be celebrated by all! We probably should have wrote this a few days ago, but there’s never a wrong time to take a few moments to reflect on these things. Here’s some summer solstice-y thoughts to reflect on to make the rest of the year great:
-Start with where you’ve been. How has the year been going? Where are you feeling great and where are you feeling blah. Don’t dwell in this past. Accept it as is, and give yourself the grace to move forward. Learn from what has been, then move on.
-What are you grateful for right now, in this very moment? Don’t just think it and move on, feel it. The little things, the big things, there are always things to be grateful for. Take a few deep breaths and really feel it with your whole being.
-Get in tune with your senses. Feel the sun hitting your cheeks. Smell the fresh cut grass. Listing to the joy of the birds chirping. Utilize every sense to feel grounded and alive. We so often lose sight of the connection with our physical body. Take a moment to show it some love.
-Dig very deep in your heart to see if your current path aligns with who you are. It’s so easy to get caught in the hustle and the competitive nature of life that we often end up on paths that aren’t our own. Make sure whatever it is you are spending all of your time and energy on each day aligns with who you are and where you want to go. And if it doesn’t. . . .
-Make a plan. Maybe your plan is to get out of the rut you’ve been stuck in. Maybe your plan is to do some soul searching to see where you got lost. Or maybe you know exactly where you’re going but just need a plan to get there. This is a time for a fresh look and to move past intent and into action.
-Take action! A small step, a huge leap, a face first dive forward, whatever it is, do something. This time is all about growth and renewal and that means doing something to grow and renew.
-But don’t forget to relax a bit. I used to have this quote on a wall “Enjoy these moments, for these moments are your life.” All these little day to day minutes are what equals a life,
so savor them. The good, the bad, the ugly, they’re all we get so we better get to appreciating them. Don’t look back and wish you would have. Hustle if you must, but life is found in those small moments where we take a deep breath, admire what’s around us, and connect with our own heart and soul.
-Connect with others. We are ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. Celebrate that! We are not our race, our size, our sexuality, our physical or mental illnesses. We are all just humans doing the best we can with what we know. You are me and I am you. Recognize each other. Love each other. Celebrate each other. Fight for each other. And refuse to see anything but the humanity in each other.
During this time of rebirth and celebration, we have the ability to start anew as individuals and as one. Let’s not waste it!
