Dog Friendly Kanab Utah:
Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park
10,000 plus year old sand dunes that are 100% open to hiking. ATV riding is also very popular here. This area of Utah is bound with outdoor destinations but not all are dog friendly. For instance Zion National Park is very limiting in terms of where you can and can’t go with your dog.
This state park is close to Las Vegas and a great alternative to some of the other natural areas that get more hype. Less hype means less visitors and more ways for our pooches (and yours) to run wild and free!
Spend anywhere from a few hours to a full day and bring your sand board! (No really you should.)
Dog Friendly Kanab Utah: Buckskin Gulch
One of the longest slot canyons in the world resides near Kanab Utah and is regarded by many as the best one in the world to hike. Buckskin is also fairly accessible via the Wire Pass Trailhead, especially if you want to bring your dog.
Day hiking does not require a permit. Though you can secure a backcountry permit and go all the way through with an overnight. What begins as a fairly easy wash hike turns into a wild adventure with boulder navigation, deep mud, and more. This is one of those places where you must check the weather before entering. Your life depends on it, flash floods are dangerous and deadly here.
It’s a one of a kind canyon that gets deeper and more profound the longer you go. Take a whole day or spend the night.

Located just five miles away from Kanab this is an excellent dog friendly day hike in Southern Utah.
Volunteering FUN: Best Friends Animal Sanctuary
Home to around 1,700 dogs, cats, pigs, birds, rabbits, and horses this is a special place for animal lovers. We stayed at the Best Friends Road House lodging that is on-site, Thor and Skadi played in the dog park, and volunteered at one of the largest (if not the largest) animal sanctuaries in the US. All with the beautiful backdrop of Angel’s Overlook in Kanab in the area.
There are so many ways you can explore here, give back with your time, and of course donate as well. We met so many lovely animals in need of homes and we just hope that they can continue to meet the needs of so many animals.
